Our Story: The Why, How, and Next

Blue BoatMatthew 14:28-29  “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.

Adoption has always been a desire of mine but in the back of my mind I wondered if it would ever really happen. It was something that we talked about frequently but didn’t have a plan in place to get it done.  Well, God had a plan in place and little did we know He was going to introduce us to HIs plan when we least expected it.

One Sunday morning, we were running around hectically trying to get ready for church with a 2.5 year old and a baby, which really means we were spooning food into their mouths while trying to change diapers and get them dressed all at the breakfast table, and we realized we were never going to make the 9:00 start time. Without completely throwing in the towel, we decided to try a different church that had a later start time. We settled into our seats and prepared our hearts for a typical message on the book of James in the bible. Well, God chose this moment to rattle us to our core as the Pastor repeatedly shouted from the pulpit, “If you have been called to adopt, then go do it. What are you waiting for?”

After the service, we got our kiddos from the nursery and headed to the car in complete silence. I think we were both afraid to ask the other person if they were feeling the same deep seated conviction that the message was directed at us.  When we got in the car Justin turned to me with tears in his eyes and said “I’m tired of talking about this. Let’s bring home our girls.” I nodded in agreement and vowed that whatever doors God chose to open, we would walk through in obedience.

Thus begins our journey of stepping out of the boat and walking in Faith. We have so many fears and hesitations, but God is the God of the storm and we trust that He will keep our feet from sinking. He will guide us and direct us throughout this journey and it is by His grace we will complete our family.
